Megan, thanks for writing. About your friend, I would certainly want to know more of the details. I choose my own battles very carefully. Discrimination is a battle I have chosen to fight. When I was a graduate student my university program decided to write a policy that said people who stutter cannot graduate. I chose to fight that battle and after a year and a lot of support from friends and professionals, my university finally retracted their discriminatory policy. Your friend will have to choose his or her own battles. From my own experience in this area, there are many professionals in the field (including myself) who have and would support people who stutter who are facing issues of discrimination in our own field.
