Cathy, i don't have any hard facts on your question. I have used the journal with two boys and tow girls (one is my daughter). The girls seem to be more prolific writers and talkers. The boys are a little bit older, more adolescent and reserved about expressing themselves in writing or orally. However, short entries and limited comments by both boys have revealed volumes which may not have surfaced without the writing component. Hope this helps. Jackie
