Thank you so much for sharing your ideas on helping "all" children with communication disorders deal with bullying. I currently spend 1/2 hour in five Kdgn. classrooms every friday. At the beginning of the year I spend at least one session dealing with inclusion and our "special friends" (not just stutterers). It is my belief that at this age, kids often bully and tease out of fear. They just need to know more about why we are all different. It seems that if we bring up the subject, kids are much more willing to talk about their fears and ask more questions. I have some students that will even share how they feel when the teasing and bullying occurs because they know they have support from peers, the teacher, and myself. I really liked your ideas on working with children who stutter specifically. Causes, myths, famous people, how we can help. We do this with ADHD kids, TBI kids. etc. Why not stutterers ? I plan on using your strategies even in the simplist form in Kdgn.
