You make a very important point. Thanks for bringing it up here. Sometimes using a source other than yourself can be the way to break through their apparent disinterest. It is a lovely gift from a child or teen to have them show excitement about something they have formerly seemed rather lukewarm about.
As you point out so well, you can never really know the mind of a child, so it's best not to assume the worst!
