Norma Krueger

Norma Krueger (picture 1953) taught 3rd grade at Madison Lutheran School for the 1952-1953 school year. She was a much-loved teacher and her third grade class was sad when they heard she was leaving MLS to marry a man name William Doering at the end of the school year. With the help of their parents, the third graders gave Miss Krueger a wedding gift and wished her well, but never knew what her life was like after she left Madison. In 2017 the following obituary was discovered and our questions were answered. Miss Krueger was happily married, had a wonderful family, and led a happy, successful, God pleasing life reflecting the Christian values she taught us. Blessed be her memory.

NORMA LORRENE DOERING ARLINGTON HEIGHTS - Norma L. Doering, formerly of Arlington Heights, was born December 16, 1931, in Freeport, Illinois to Albert Carl and Bessie Catherine (nee Herbig) Krueger. She died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2014, in Stone Mountain, Georgia.

Mrs. Doering graduated from Freeport High School, home of the Pretzels, in 1949 and attended Concordia Teacher's College in River Forest, IL; Wittenberg University in Springfield, OH; and University of Illinois. Norma, along with her husband, established an endowed scholarship to provide support for elementary education students at the University of Illinois. The endowment recognizes Norma's outstanding career as a teacher and the Doering's long history of involvement with the university.

She was an incredibly loving and vibrant mother and grandmother who loved to read, sing, play the piano, travel, and shop - especially for other people. Her greatest passion was her family. Norma is survived by her children, Beth Anne (Larry) Obrock and Michael Charles Doering; and her grandchildren, Erin and Kyle Obrock and Ellie and Karyna Doering. She was preceded in death by husband of 55 years, Charles William Doering, whom she married August 23, 1953; her parents; and her siblings, Vernice Wilke and Melvin Krueger.
