Summary of the book: 
This year’s Common Read book, Out of Chaos, is a collection of personal reminiscences. It provides a window into the history of Minnesota State Mankato during the 1960s and 1970s. Former Mankato State College President, Dr. James F. Nickerson, compiled this book with input from graduates, faculty, administrators, and citizens who witnessed these historic events. Many believe President Nickerson’s leadership, during this tumultuous period, kept demonstrations at Minnesota State Mankato from escalating into the disruptive violence experienced on other college campuses.  Out of Chaos highlights the importance of student engagement with social and political issues, and demonstrates how the actions of an individual or group can influence the course of history.
