Alternative Spring Break

Page address:

Volunteer. Travel. Connect.

Check here in October 2018 to apply for ASB 2019!

Every year, a group of Minnesota State University, Mankato students travel to a different location to spend their spring break volunteering on a local service project. Last year volunteers traveled to Garland, Texas to help repair houses with Habitat for Humanity.

The 2017 Alternative Spring Break will be in Winnipeg, Canada! Participants will be working with a local nonprofit agency that assists refugees and helping teach English classes. We hope you are looking forward to a potentially life-changing service experience.

The total cost of the trip should be around $400 per person.

Limited space is available for participants, so sign up as soon as possible to ensure there is enough space for you. Spots are still available!

Tentative Itinerary:

  • Leave for Winnipeg, Canada on Saturday, March 4, 2017.
  • Sunday: Group cultural excursion in Winnipeg
  • Monday through Friday: Work with the Immigrant & Refugee Community Organization of Manitoba (IRCOM) to teach English lessons to refugees during the day.
  • Return Saturday, March 11, 2017.

Apply for the trip here:

Since we will be traveling to Canada, students will need a valid passport to participate in the trip. Information about applying for a passport can be found here. Receiving your passport take approximately 4-6 weeks (or 2-3 weeks if expedited), so apply for your passport as soon as possible!
