Thomas Norman

Dean, University Extended Education

In August 2016, Dr. Thomas Norman joined Minnesota State Mankato as the Dean of University Extended Education. Operating within the Academic Affairs division his responsibilities include providing collaborative leadership for academic program development for extended education students in support of the University's strategic directions and priorities. Responsibilities include leading the development of a portfolio of high-quality baccalaureate degree completion, graduate programming and other programs and services offered through face-to-face, hybrid and on-line programming operating from multiple extended education locations.

Prior to his joining Minnesota State University, Tom was the state Director of Workforce Development/Strategic Workforce Partnerships for the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development. Before joining DEED, he was a senior administrator at the University of Minnesota responsible for activities designed to increase the capacity of University to create new methods of translating research into practice, research commercialization and was responsible for developing high quality corporate credit and non-credit training programs that matched the needs of employers with university expertise.

He has a doctorate in Educational Policy Administration from the University of Minnesota with an emphasis on academic and industry partnerships and his master’s degree is in Public Administration from Hamline University.

As Assistant to the Dean, this position is the liaison between the University Extended Education (UEE) Dean’s Office and all clientèle in and outside the University. Responsibilities include being the primary contact for the Dean’s schedule, maintaining the UEE website, managing human resource functions and financial monitoring and reporting for the division.

Jill Krosch

As Program Coordinator for University Extended Education (UEE), Jill coordinates the development, deployment and marketing activities for the programs UEE supports. She also serves as a key communicator for department policies and procedures, coordinates grant opportunities, manages office operations and is responsible for resource/fiscal management.

Jill Joined Minnesota State University, Mankato (MNSU) in 2012. She has served on a variety of committees and workgroups and was the Chair of the President’s Commission on the Status of Women (PCSW) in 2016-2017. Recently completed professional development activities include: Elizabeth Kearney Women’s Leadership Program (2017-2018 cohort); Professional Soft Skills Academy (2018); Mental Health First Aid Training (2019).

Jill earned her MBA from MNSU in 2019 as well as a MS in Educational Leadership from MNSU in 2013. Her double-major bachelor’s degrees are in Business Administration and Human Resource Management from Metropolitan State University in St. Paul, MN.

Molly Schaefer

Director of Industry Relations

Molly Schaefer is the Director of Industry Relations. Molly initiates, develops and maintains relationships/partnerships with industry to support the University and programs, including project-based engineering programs, credit and non-credit programs including Professional Science Master’s programs, industry training and closed cohort opportunities.

Molly joined Minnesota State University, Mankato in 2017 as Development Director for the College of Arts and Humanities. Prior to joining the University, Molly served as the Northwest Regional STEM Manager for Iowa’s bipartisan statewide STEM initiative. During her time in Iowa, Molly oversaw significant gains in participation across STEM programs, positioning the region as one of the most active and successful regions of the state. She increased engagement by collaborating and forming partnerships with industry, stakeholders, elected officials and educational organizations throughout the northwest region. She chaired the statewide STEM Equity Committee and established a strategic communication network. Molly also has years of experience working in the private sector in marketing and sales.

Molly received her master’s degree in Multicultural College Teaching & Learning from the University of Minnesota. Her undergraduate degrees are in Broadcast & Electronic Communications(Digital Communications)and Criminology & Law Studies from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Jeff Pool

Outreach Coordinator for Partnerships and Collaboration

Jeff’s role as Outreach Coordinator for Partnerships and Collaboration allows him to build relationships with potential students and administrators from community colleges and industry partners. He is housed at the Partnership Center at Normandale Community College, but will be spending time attending transfer fairs, tabling at community colleges, and in the community spreading the word about our exciting programs through Extended Education in the Twin Cities.

Jeff started his career in 2004 and has spent time recruiting and advising students in schools across South Dakota, Iowa and Minnesota. Since joining the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system in 2010, he has been building advising and support services for military-connected students who were looking to advance their careers and education after service at both Anoka-Ramsey Community College and Metropolitan State University. In 2017, Jeff was selected to participate in the Luoma Leadership Academy, which allowed him the opportunity to train alongside leaders from across the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system and to work on an action-learning project focused on improving orientation for extended education learners at Minnesota State Mankato. Jeff joined the Extended Education team in April of 2019.

Jeff received his Master of in Educational Leadership from Minnesota State University, Mankato, in the spring of 2019. He also received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Southwest Minnesota State University in 2007.

Sara Leigh

Student Relations Coordinator

Sara Leigh is the Student Relations Coordinator (SRC) for University Extended Education. As the SRC for University Extended Education Sara serves as a campus resource liaison for the students in Communication Studies, Twin Cities Engineering, Elementary Education, and Special Education offered on the Normandale Community College campus. She also serves as an advisor and resource for the online students in the Applied Organizational Studies program.

Sara started as an SRC in February of 2017, but she has been part of the Minnesota State system for close to 15 years and has been in higher education almost 25 years. Her experience spans admissions and recruiting, advising, records and teaching.

Sara graduated from Minnesota State University Moorhead back when it was still called Moorhead State University, and she earned her master’s degree at the University of Denver.

MaiChong Lee

Metro Area Program Coordinator

MaiChong Lee is the Program Coordinator for the Metro-Area programs as well as the Onsite Coordinator for the Edina Graduate & Professional Center. She has been with MSU for almost 3 years. She handles all of the room reservations for events, classes and meetings at the Edina facility. She also provides technical support to faculty, staff and students. Chelsey Dively

Off-Campus Program Assistant

Chelsey Dively is the Off Campus Program Assistant for Minnesota State University Mankato’s Edina location. Ms. Dively is dedicated to running the facility in the evenings and weekends as well as assisting with marketing the graduate and undergraduate programs. Her colorful background includes working as a Page Designer for Lee Enterprises, a Scheduler for the Minneapolis Veteran’s Home, Assistant Manager for Crazy Old Coot’s Estate Sales, and interning abroad in London for the Space Theatre. She graduated in 2016 with a bachelor’s degree in Theatre from Minnesota State University Mankato.

Mandla Senzanje

Database & Marketing Intern


Mandla is responsible for creating databases and lists of potential business clients for the University Extended Education, visualizing data and conducting market research for various programs. Mandla is currently a senior at the University (Graduating Spring 2019), studying Computer Information Technology with a minor in Technical Communications.

Ebru Ilhan

Recruitment and Advising Coordinator (Twin Cities)


As a graduate Intern, Ebru is responsible for recruitment and advising at University Extended Education. She assists students with initial advising and registration, participates in tabling and career fairs, and updates educational materials. She is currently working on Master's degree in Ethnic and Multicultural Studies, earned lately her previous Master's degree in Counseling and Student Personnel-College Students Affairs, and Bachelor's degree in Biology at Minnesota State University Mankato.
