Call for Spring 2016 Faculty Participation
in New International Internship in China
An international internship opportunity exists at Xiamen University (China) for spring 2016 and interested faculty from any discipline are encouraged to contact Dr. Cyrus Azarbod (email@example.com) for details. Faculty members who have the ability to communicate in Chinese are especially encouraged to consider this opportunity. The faculty member will serve as the University’s designated consortium liaison and will be able to lecture and/or engage in research during the program dates (February 12 through June 2016). Faculty members are expected to spend a minimum of 4 weeks at the site. Travel to and from Xiamen, China is covered and a furnished apartment is provided. China Internship Program (CIP)
The College of Science, Engineering and Technology, the Department of Computer and Information Science, and Global Education are pleased to announce a new cooperative international multi-disciplinary, multi-national internship program in Xiamen, China. As one of nine cooperating universities, Minnesota State University, Mankato is able to offer students the opportunity to spend a semester abroad working in international teams on client-based projects that solve real-world problems. Launched in 2007, over 400 students from 8 different higher education institutions have completed the CHECK-IT International Internship Program. Students spend 20 weeks in China engaged in projects that are commissioned by leading Chinese and multinational corporations located in the Xiamen Software Research and Development Park, a leading center for technological innovation that is adjacent to Xiamen University. Project teams are mentored and supervised by faculty from Xiamen University as well as leading universities in the Netherlands and Finland.
The internship site is located in Xiamen City in the Fujian Province of China. Xiamen is a coastal city that was ranked the second livable city in China in 2006 as well as one of China's most romantic leisure destinations in 2011. It has a population of 3.67 million and the climate is subtropical with mild temperatures. Xiamen is near Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, making it a convenient location for travel to other popular destinations in Asia.
Five spaces are available for spring 2016 and preference will be given to MSU, M students with academic majors or coursework in IT, Business, Graphic Design, Audio/Video, Technical Communication, and other related disciplines. Students pay MSU, M tuition and can apply their credits toward their degree programs. Financial support is available based upon student need and the availability of matching funds.
