also compose their own contributions to this unique genre.

Native American musician Robert Turgeon is a Metis' of French, Indian
and Irish descent. He has studied the Native American flute for over
20 years and is considered one of the finest players in the world.
We will be hearing music from his cd Legacy (2009). That recording
is preceded by a trilogy orf recordings including , "Voices from
the Spirit World" (1995), "Shaman's Journey" (1998)
and "Stone Song" (2000).

Lokua Kanza was born in Bukavu, in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
He is related, on his father's side to the Mongo people, known for
their polyphonic singing. His mother is from Rwanda, a country known
for its sophisticated court music. He grew up in Kinshasha where he
was steeped in music from morning till night. He made his decision
to become a singer after attending a Miriam Makeba concert. His songs
are sung in Lingala, Portuguese and French.
