Florence L. & Raymond H. Sponberg Scholarship: A scholarship in the ammount of $500 will be awarded this year to an outstanding female World Languages and Cultures major. All female majors who will be attending MSU next year, graduate and undergraduate, are encouraged to apply. The possibility of consecutive awards is not precluded. Application forms are available from the department office or the Department of World Languages and Cultures Website. You will be asked to cite foreign language-related activities (be specific and detailed), and future plans for the use of language. Attach a current academic transcript.
A committee from World Languages and Cultures will review all applications. Committee members will consider the demonstrated performance and the perceived potential of each candidate in making their recommendations. In their deliberations the committee members will give preference to candidates who have done the following:
- Achieved at a minimum an overall GPA of 3.2 and a GPA in the language of 3.5
- Completed at least two upper division courses (300-400 level) in the target language.
- Demonstrated enthusiastic and consistent participation in one or both of the following areas:
- unpaid departmental activities
- unpaid activities outside the Department of World Languages and Cultures that involve the use and/or promotion of the language.
In the event of a tie between two candidates, their respective grade-point averages will be the determining factor. Application forms are available in AH227 or here. After all of the applications have been reviewd, candidates will be informed by the letter of the Department's decision.
In the event that the recipient should drop below full-time student status at any time during the 2015-2016 academic year, the department will award the balance of the scholarship to the runner-up.
Please inquire about the application deadline by contacting the department and ask for Dr. Greg Taylor, Department Chair or Theresa Kopishke, Administrative Assistant.
