The Coordinator shall hold a minimum of five (5) office hours each week, attend bi-weekly Student Government cabinet meetings, and attend at least one Students United conference a semester. The Coordinator may also be asked by the Student Government President to attend MSU Meet & Confer meetings with the MSU President.


This position is a per semester appointment/reappointment and does normally include a $650 annual stipend. The Coordinator may receive a letter of recommendation upon request from the Student Government President following successful term(s) of employment. The student must be enrolled a minimum of six (6) credits each semester to receive remuneration.

Job Summary:

The Student Government Academic Affairs Coordinator shall be responsible for coordinating the Maverick Textbook Reserve Program as well as the efforts of all Academic Senators. The Coordinator, in conjunction with the Vice President, will facilitate communications between the Bookstore Advisory Committee, Library Advisory Committee, Technology Fee Advisory Committee, college student advisory boards, Legislative Affairs Committee, and University Administration as appropriate. In the event that the Academic Affairs Coordinator is currently, or becomes a Senator, they will be excused from required membership of additional Senate committees. In the event of vacancy in the office of the Academic Affairs Coordinator, the Student Government Vice President shall assume duties until an appointment is made.

Specific Goals/Duties:

  • To propose, develop and advocate the student position on academic concerns.
  • To use proper resources to inform students, faculty and staff about all significant information pertinent to Academic Affairs.
  • To be aware of academic issues to properly address and answer students questions
  • Assist students in the grade appeal process as specified in the Government Grade Appeals Assistance Procedure.
  • Disseminate approved information to media outlets, Student Government, RSO's, and MSU studentsAttend bi-weekly Student Government Cabinet meetings, and one Student Government Senate meeting each month
  • Assist with the preparation of the Academic Affairs campus reports to Students United conferences and work collaboratively with the Students United campus from MSU Mankato
  • Keep weekly journal of all activities/contacts.


Contact all levels of personnel within MSU Mankato, the greater Mankato community, Students United, Minnesota State and any other relevant agencies/offices with regard to given position and duties.

Required Hours of Service:

Hold posted regular office hours at Student Government for a minimum of five (5) hours per week to be accessible to Student Government staff, Senate and students. Complete all other assigned work each week at Coordinator's convenience.

Skills and Educational Requirements:

This student must demonstrate a good understanding of mass communications and public relations and have a desire to work in government affairs. The student shall also comply with all requirements set forth in the Student Government Constitution and Bylaws and shall submit official GPA to Student Government's administrative assistant at time of hire and at the beginning of each term of employment.
