- Mini-Mavs-Coordinator Michelle Murzyn Cheri Bowyer gave history- Mini Mavs started in 1993. Continues to grow. Parents that are involved with the program are very pleased with it according to the survey that was handed out. Michelle - Comparison of numbers with Privately vs. Paid by assistance. Mini-Mavs Bookfair - 4-30-98, 6:30 - 8:30 . Fund raiser to help defer costs.

a) Student Allocations Committee-Chair Michelle Murzyn Student Allocations Committee Recommendation #29 Psychology Club Allocation R# 04-22-98A Move to recommend up to $480.00 for lodging to the Psychology Club to attend the Midwest Psychology Association Convention. Motion Passed
b)Student Affairs and Academic Affairs Conference Committee- Senator Jarvis R#04-22-98B Resolve that MSSA Senate recommend that Academic Advising be moved from Student Affairs and placed under the jurisdiction of Academic Affairs. Passed R#04-22-98C Resolve that MSSA Senate recommend that Academic Advising be moved from University Student Affairs under Vice President of Student Affairs to be placed under the jurisdiction of University Academic Affairs under the Vice President of Academic Affairs. Motion carries

Senator Drganc - Move to amend the motion Senator Harmon - 2nd R#04-22-98D Be it resolved: That the MSSA Senate is opposed to Mankato State University's "Banded Tuition" proposal for the 1998-1999 academic year. Bakke and Kate Jacobsen Abstain with rights. Without an understanding on our part how the university's proposal will affect graduate students. We abstain. Senator Oelberg - Yes with rights. I believe that information has been provided, but there are more answers needed. Plus it is too soon for Fall 1998. Kelsi Turner Senator Pavlenko - I can't help but wonder if implementing banded tuition while the students are relling from the massive change already coming in the form of semester conversion is too much. One major change at a time, please. R#04-22-98D Be it resolved: That the MSSA Senate is opposed to Mankato State University's "Banded Tuition" proposal for the 1998-1999 academic year. Be it further resolved: That the MSSA Senate is committed to having further discussions with the Vice President for Fiscal Affairs regarding the "Banded Tuition" Proposal Motion carries - 13-7
c) Speaker - Jason Kocina Resolutions - Responses from Dr. Healy from Jan.22 memo. R#01.21.98E Issues and outstanding resolutions to be resolved. See President Dietz or Speaker, needs to be resolved before the end of the year. Recognized Student Organizations United Nations Club Preformance Sports Student Friendly Award and Teacher of the Year Award - Only one application so far. Hoping to see more. Needs to be in by Mon. April 27. Voting at next meeting.
VII. Staff Reports
- Cultural Diversity - Allison McGee Washington DC trip - Cultural Diversity issues were put on platform. MSUSA does care. Trip was very interesting and a good learning experience. MSUSA needs to give us money or find someone that will give us money. MSU is having problems with office. Attended ALCA conference. Met with ISO concerning issurance policy.

a) Senator E. Bakke Motion #1 by Senator E. Bakke and 2nd by Senator S. Bakke to rename the staff of the year award. Senator Oelberg - Wait and let Mini Mavs handle it. Adam Glascow needs to be asked if he wants the award named after him. Senator Benzer - motion to lay on table Motion carried Motion #2 By Senator E. Bakke and 2nd by Senator Benzer Discussion Senator Van Every - Move to refer motion to Constituion Commision, 2nd by Senator Jarvis. Roll Call Vote by Senator E. b) Senator Jarvis Move to 15 minute recess. MSUSA - Morehead Conference 4-24-98.Treasurer in operations elections on Sunday. Senators running for office represented from Winona, St. Cloud, and Chris Hiller from Mankato State. Senator Van Every has made the decision to not run. Senator Van Every - Should support Chris to get him elected. Senator E. Bakke - Support Chris. Senator Harmon - Chris is not the best choice. He is the best choice of the four. MSU should abstain. Senator Dettmeijer - Should let delegates that are going make the choice. Thanked Senator Jarvis for asking opinon. Senator Elvebak - We shouldn't support Chris just because he is from MSU. Senator Jarvis - Not asking for stance. Looking for inside. President Dietz - Senate should not be publicly talking about canidates if they are not here to defend themselves. Senator Dettmeijer - The delegates that were chosen should be able to vote as they see fit. Senator Mayfield - Should choose the best person. Read memo from MSUSA, St. Cloud. R#04.22.98D Tuition Resolution Be it resolved that the MSSA Senate WILL NOT initiate a tuition increase above an inflationary increase for fiscal year 1999 Motion by Senator Jarvis 2nd by Senator Anderson Senator Anderson - Why does MSU need such a great increase. We need to know where this money is going. Senator S. Bakke - Numbers seemed to be skewed. Senator VanEvery - Increase is above and beyond according to Minnesota State Senator Bauer - There are people that this is going to effect by not being able to afford the schooling. Senator E. Bakke - Move to continue old business next week. Senator Drganc -Proxy Francis Klinkner - Need to present stand at 1st reading. Senator Anderson - Need to take a stand right now. Senator Bauer - Need to be pro active. Senator Jarvis - vote down motion on floor and vote on the main motion that Motion failed. R#04.22.98D Tuition Resolution Be it resolved that the MSSA Senate WILL NOT initiate a tuition increase above an inflationary increase for fiscal year 1999 Main motion Carried.
