On behalf of the student senate thank you for your service Speaker Andy Welti. (presented gavel)
Senator Rector-What is your opinion of the new Chancellor?
President Boyce-I have not personally met him. He brings a lot of systematic experience. We will have to start a lame duck session as he begins in July.
Vice President Tim Huebsch
The new cell phones are in. They will be distributed in January to six undergraduate colleges. They want the phones in a classroom environment. Phones also given to the Deans. A computer science course will be working on the web technology.
Senator Rector-Why will the College of Graduate Studies not be included in the pilot?
Vice President Huebsch-That was a decision made by the cabinet, I do not know why.

Election of Speaker
Candidates: Rachel D. Noah, Roger White Owl
Senator Noah-Currently an Off-Campus Senator. Third year as a Senator, chair of SOAFC, have served on Communications Board, Anthropology Club President, Sage. Have had experience of committees, and currently Chair of Judicial Board. It would not be a problem filling the vacancies I would create if elected.
Roger White Owl-Currently on Union Board, American Indian Association. Also member of FFA. Elected Vice President of Student Senate at tribal college. Have had the opportunity to intern in Washington DC. I feel I am a bridge between the old senate and the new. I have been able to work with both senates. If elected Speaker I feel I could be a very good bridge.
Senator Groenewold-Would you change current procedures as to the way MSSA is run?
Mr. White Owl-No I would not. I feel if we pressed rules too much we would turn off students.
Ms. Noah-No I would not change procedures, I have observed many Speakers and styles. I think this senate is effective and I like the way it is run. The interest is there. The people that are interested in Parly Pro can have that opportunity but it is fine the way it is.
Senator Gaffer-Will candidates be able to commit the time to serve as Speaker?
Ms. Noah-I am aware of the time commitment. As Speaker you have to free up other commitments. I would have office hours, meet with people individually, help with Robert's. Am excited about position.
Senator White Owl-More than willing, the office is an easy environment-being in the office is an education. Office hours will be accomplished.
Mr. White Owl-I do have experience in Robert's Rules of Order. Rachel is also a very good candidate.
Ms. Noah-I want to say openly and honestly that I really really want this. I am trying for the second time. I have spent a lot of time with senate, seen many changes. I know history of senate. I would do an excellent job. Thank you.
