"Sports Bubble" Passes 1,900 Yes, 997 No - Sports Dome Moves Forward

On December 4th the student body at-large voted to "tax" themselves to invest in a proposed $4 million "seasonal recreational sports dome". University President Richard Davenport and the Minnesota State Board of Trustees will now weigh in on whether the Sports Bubble will happen or not. See this link http://www.mnsu.edu/campusrec/sports_dome_proposal.pdf

Half of the cost of facility construction would be paid through a student fee amounting to $0.83 per credit hour, not to exceed $10 per semester, per student, for a period of 10 years. If eventually built next year, the seasonal dome would be deployed each October and taken down each April.

All kinds of recreational and sports clubs would now have the opportunity to play and practice during winter months where in the past the Bud Myers Field House and the Ruth Schellberg Gym have been scheduled up to the max leaving little time for popular club sport activities. Student investment in the project would total $2 million with another $2 million from other sources. Priority would be given to student clubs.

To accommodate on-campus Dome users and off-campus visitors, the Parking & Transportation Advisory Committee will address how to change Lot 22 South, which is next to the now vacant field which will be covered by the Sports Dome. The Free Lot (a.k.a. Lot 23) will not be affected except when event participants leave Lot 22 and exit off of MSU property onto Monks Avenue by Kwik Trip.
