MSSA Plugs Through Final Meeting of the Year
Environmental workgroup passed.
Issue date: 4/26/07 Section: Senate Notes
The 74th Minnesota State Student Association didn't slack in work even though they met for the last time yesterday.
The MSSA passed a motion to form an environmental workgroup. The workgroup would consist of four students - one being a student senator - and three faculty members to create ideas and recommendations for university policies regarding the school's impact on the environment and its sustainable energy policies.
Financial matters have been a main issue of the 2006-07 student senate and the MSSA concluded its year by passing a motion related to tuition costs. Citing that tuition has increased 67 percent in the last six years, the lobbying efforts of MSSA and the Minnesota State University Student Association for a tuition freeze and the concern of Minnesota State students about rising tuition, the MSSA strongly supported "a tuition cap no higher than the [Minnesota State Colleges and Universities] system-wide average."
Inaugurations for next year's officers occurred during a ceremony before the meeting. The 75th MSSA will have its first meeting Wednesday at 4 p.m. in CSU 284.
