Auditions for Entrance into the Music Major and Private Studios

Students are expected to audition for acceptance into the major on an individual basis by prior arrangement with the Department of Music Office. Acceptance into the major also requires a diagnostic theory exam. Students auditioning for a music scholarship are considered for the music major or minor through that audition.

Vocal Auditions: Prepare an art song appropriate for contest and an additional selection of your choice (pop or musical theatre). An accompanist will be provided. (If you are unsure of appropriate repertory, consult your choir director).

Instrumental Auditions: Prepare two contrasting sections of a solo, solos, or etudes. (Consult your band or orchestra director if you are unsure of appropriate repertory).

Piano Studies: Prepare three memorized contrasting works from different historical periods. Please bring a list of repertoire studied and performed during the last two years to your audition.

Guitar: Guitarists should prepare a piece of music that is comparable to these [PDF] excerpts (31 KiB).

Masters Auditions

MM in Piano Performance: Prepare a minimum of three contrasting works from different historical periods. Must include a complete sonata and a virtuosic work from any historical period.
