Live Stream for Evening Performance of "As You Like It" on Saturday, March 1st
Minnesota State University, Mankato will break new ground by broadcasting one of its theatre productions live and online on the evening of Saturday, March 1st, brought to you by a collaboration of Information & Technology Services and Department of Theatre & Dance
Maverick Visual Productions, a unit of Information & Technology Services, will broadcast the Department of Theatre & Dance's performance of Shakespeare's "As You Like It" on Saturday, March 1st, at 7:30 pm. The production, a result of collaboration between the two departments, will be streamed live on MavTUBE and later archived here. This will be the first time for a Minnesota State University, Mankato's theatre production to be broadcast, either live or recorded.
The live stream will include multiple camera angles, shot from high-definition cameras placed at the rear and the sides of the auditorium. HD recording technology will enable viewers with fast Internet connections to watch the stream in high definition. Sound for the stream will be provided by microphones installed at both sides of the proscenium.
Maverick Visual Productions technicians plan to perform a live-mixed production, which means they will be switching the view from one camera to another right on the spot during the play. They will attend various rehearsals and live performances to prepare themselves for achieving this goal.
The Department of Theatre & Dance often works with material from the public domain, which allows for streaming or other forms of sharing performances. Considering the great real-world learning experience this kind of joint effort offers to students in both programs, Information & Technology Services and the Department of Theatre & Dance hope to continue their collaboration in the future.
