Oct. 26: Blues Guitarist Debbie Davies
Performance is at Hooligan's.
Minnesota State University, Mankato Department of Music News Release, 10-15-2013
MANKATO, Minn. – Blues guitarist Debbie Davies takes the stage Saturday, October 26 at Hooligan's, located in the Madison East Center, 1400 E. Madison Ave., Mankato.
The concert is co-sponsored by KMSU-The Maverick and the Minnesota State Mankato Performance Series with assistance from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
Davies has received ten Blues Music Award nominations, and in 1997 and 2010 won the award for Best Contemporary Female Blues Artist.
Debbie Davies is a singer, songwriter, and guitar player of extraordinary talent. Debbie has taken the blues world by storm since leaving her mentor’s band, the late blues guitar great Albert Collins. There are more female guitarists on the scene today than ever before, but Davies is the only one who came up through the ranks by cutting her chops with one of the masters. Davies is proud to have been among the few that have broken down barriers and enabled others to follow.
Blues Review Magazine says, “Debbie Davies pulls out all the stops. She can play it all: seductive, soulful material, down-home delta Blues, or humorous tales of life on the road.”
Mankato favorites The Barefoot Winos will open the show starting at 8:00 p.m.
Concert admission is $15 in advance, $18 day of show. Those who wish to purchase tickets online should go to www.mnsu.edu/music.
