State Rep. Andy Welti, the youngest member of the Minnesota House of Representatives, received the 2008 Distinguished Young Alumni Award on April 10.
Welti, a 2003 Social Studies/Geography Education graduate, received the award at a dinner and ceremony hosted by the university’s Alumni Association.
The Distinguished Young Alumni Award goes to Minnesota State Mankato graduates 35 years old or younger who have reached professional achievements early in their careers, and have positively impacted their communities.
Welti, of Plainview, Minn., is one of four Minnesota State Mankato graduates honored as 2008 Distinguished Alumni Award winners.
He was elected to the Minnesota House (District 30B) in 2004 and was re-elected in 2006. He has been a substitute teacher in the Plainview, Dover-Eyota and Rochester public schools.
At Minnesota State Mankato he served as a member of the Student Senate and the College Democrats, and was an intern for U.S. Sen. Paul Wellstone’s campaign. He also was a member of several community service groups, including Circle K.
Minnesota State Mankato is part of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system, which comprises 32 state universities, community colleges, technical colleges and combined community and technical colleges located on 53 campuses across the state. The system serves approximately 242,000 students annually.
