The new dorms at Minnesota State Mankato are officially named and dedicated today.

The Margaret R. Preska. Residence Community is named after Minnesota State Mankato president Emerita Margaret R. Preska.

She was president of the university from 1979-1992. During that time the university enrollment grew by 43 percent.

She is still involved in Minnesota State Mankato activities and says a new residence hall will provide students with many social opportunities.

"It's important for any students to have this opportunity to make friends to interact with people, even if you are not friends, to learn how other people do things, where they come from, what they're lives are like what their dreams are," Preska said.

The Margaret R. Preska. Residence community is expected to be complete by summer and occupied by next fall.

The future of Gage Towers is still being decided.
