'Where's Abe?' contest encourages hunt for statue

Minnesota State Mankato faculty, staff, students and the public are snapping pictures of an Abraham Lincoln statue as part of a contest organized by the university’s Memorial Library staff.

Library staff members have hidden the Lincoln bust in the library, and when participants find it, they take creative photographs of themselves with the statue, and post the pictures on Facebook.

New clues to the statue’s whereabouts are posted every Monday through November on the site (

The photo receiving the most Facebook “likes” will be declared the “Where's Abe?” contest winner on Dec. 9.

The Lincoln bust is a recent Archives acquisition from the College of Education. Because the university has little information about the bust’s history, those who have information are asked to contact the University Archives at

Minnesota State Mankato, a comprehensive university with 15,547 students, is part of the Minnesota State Colleges & Universities system, which comprises 32 state institutions.
