One of the state’s largest multicultural events, the Mankato Area International Festival, returns to Minnesota State University, Mankato’s Centennial Student Union Sunday, April 22 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The popular annual event, hosted by Minnesota State Mankato’s Kearney International Center, was last held on campus a decade ago. The 36th annual festival continues the tradition of free admission and free parking while giving students and the public the chance to experience continuous entertainment, traditional cuisine, global items, and interaction with people from around the world.

In keeping with the International Festival’s return to the University, this year’s theme is “Different Places, Different Faces, Same Smile.”

“The University location allows many more students to participate in the festival, and the public will enjoy the wonderful range of activities happening on all three levels of the Centennial Student Union,” said Kyle Goodfellow, festival organizer and Kearney International Center grad assistant.
Highlights include the opening ceremony and colorful flag parade at 11 a.m., student groups and area restaurants selling a wide variety of international foods, songs and dances offering glimpses into core elements of world cultures, Children’s and Teens World, a silent auction and vendor booths with traditional cultural items from many nations and regions of the world.

Free parking is available in the large parking lot directly in front of the Centennial Student Union main south entrance and at several other designated campus parking lots.

For more information, contact Kyle Goodfellow at the Kearney International Center at 507-389-1281 or, or visit the festival website at
