'Avenue Q' intended for adult audiences

Award-winning musical coming to Minnesota State Mankato for first time.

Mankato Free Press, 6-10-2012

The 46th annual Highland Summer Theatre season continues at Minnesota State University with “Avenue Q,” an irreverent musical featuring puppets.

This is no Sesame Street puppetry, however.

Language and content could be offensive to some.

Winner of the Tony “ Triple Crown” for Best Musical, Best Score and Best Book, “Avenue Q” is a laugh- out-loud “for adults only” musical that tells the story of a recent college graduate named Princeton who moves into a shabby New York apartment all the way out on Avenue Q, which is far away from, but similar to, Sesame Street.

Together, Princeton and his newfound friends struggle to find jobs, dates and their ever- elusive purpose in life. Songs include “ What Do You Do with a B.A. in English?,” “ The Internet is for Porn” and “Everyone’s A Little Bit Racist.”

“Avenue Q” is making its MSU debut.

The musical is directed by Paul J. Hustoles, chair of MSU’s Department of Theatre and Dance, with musical direction by Nick Wayne.
