Mankato, Minn. – Preschool and early school-age children and their parents are invited to a free “PlayDay” Friday, June 15, directed by Minnesota State University, Mankato Family Consumer Science students and faculty, in collaboration with the Children’s Museum of Southern Minnesota.

The event, featuring no-cost and low-cost activities to engage children and parents, will be from 10 a.m. to noon in Elk’s Nature Center, Rasmussen Woods, 555 Stoltzman Road (rain or shine).

“PlayDay” is the culmination of a summer course about the benefits of play for child development, taught by Heather Von Bank of Minnesota State Mankato’s Family Consumer Science Department.

The day is intended to raise awareness with parents about the importance of play in children’s lives, and to show that reducing public funds for play will affect children, families and communities.

Minnesota State Mankato, a comprehensive university with 15,649 students, is part of the Minnesota State Colleges & Universities system, which comprises 32 state institutions.
