Alum bringing Big Boned BBQ Company to Campus

Demonstration, tips, samples provided.

Mankato, Minn. – Minnesota State University, Mankato alumnus Pat Nelson is bringing a team from his Big Boned BBQ Company to campus on Thursday, Aug. 2 at 11:30 a.m. to provide a demonstration and tips on barbecuing along with samples of his company’s products.

The event, sponsored by Minnesota State Mankato’s Student Activities Office, is free and open to the general public and will be held near the fountain on the Centennial Student Union mall.

Nelson is a nationally traveled barbecue competitor who participates in rib festivals and barbecue competitions around the country. He and a team from his company will be competing in Mankato’s 15th annual Ribfest, which will be held from Aug. 2-5 at Riverfront Park. Nelson’s company has garnered several “Best Ribs,” “Best Sauce” and “Best Pork” titles at various competitions.

Nelson is a 1993 graduate of Minnesota State Mankato. He was a member of Minnesota State Mankato’s wrestling team and also served as a graduate assistant coach for the 1994 wrestling team.
