Sept. 20: Preska Residence Community Ribbon Cutting

Program set for 10 a.m. at new building.

Mankato, Minn. — A community ribbon cutting will be held on Thursday, Sept. 20 for the new Margaret R. Preska Residence Community at Minnesota State University, Mankato. The event, which is open to the general public, will focus on the new building and President Emerita Margaret Preska’s accomplishments and her commitment to students.

The program will begin at 10 a.m. in Preska 124. Guest speakers will include Minnesota State Mankato President Richard Davenport, Margaret Preska and Director of Residential Life Cindy Janney. At 10:40 a.m., the ribbon cutting will be held at the main entrance of the building.

RSVPs are requested by Tuesday, Sept. 18 via email to or by calling 507-389-3235. Free parking is available in Lot 15 (in front of McElroy) and the Ellis Avenue curb.

On Feb. 8, 1979, Dr. Margaret R. Preska was chosen president of Mankato State. Her tenure included an increase in enrollment to 16,500 students. The campus also saw considerable new construction, including the Ostrander-Student Bell Tower, Warren Street Center, Andreas Observatory, Wissink Center, Pennington Building and the Memorial Library addition. Additionally, her tenure included expansion into new programs and the establishment of a major development program among friends of the university.
