Oct. 21: University Concert Bands

Symphonic Band and Concert Wind Ensemble to perform.

MANKATO, Minn. – The University Concert Bands will perform on Sunday, October 21, 2012 at 3:00 pm in the Elias J. Halling Recital Hall of the Earley Center for Performing Arts, 320 Maywood Ave.

The University Concert Bands consists of the Symphonic Band and the Concert Wind Ensemble, which are composed of university students, staff, and community members. Dr. Amy Roisum Foley directs both of these ensembles.

This concert is centered around the British Isles in honor of the Summer Olympics. Works by British composers will be performed that are British folk song settings or are directly related to the Olympics. It is a more traditional concert that features several well-known wind band composers and wind works.

Trumpet section leader Evan Collins says, “I enjoy playing in the Concert Wind Ensemble because it allows people to come together to make music and to make connections in ways they may have never thought possible.”

Featured vocal soloistsinclude Dr. Kimm Julian, baritone; Ms. Lauren Weber, soprano; and Mr. JamesMcGuire, acoustic guitar. The soloists along with the Concert Wind Ensemble will perform original folk songs from Percy Aldridge Grainger's Lincolnshire Posy. In addition, Ms. Dawn Punke, Masters student, will quest conduct both ensembles.
