Dec. 8: NCAA Football Playoffs

Mavericks host Valdosta State in NCAA Division II national semifinals.

Mankato, Minn. --- The Minnesota State University, Mankato football team (13-0 overall) has learned that it will play host to Valdosta State (10-2) next Saturday at historic Blakeslee Stadium in the NCAA Division II national semifinals. The game time, which is still subject to change by ESPN, is tentatively scheduled for 2 p.m. Central Time.

The winner of Saturday's game will play in the national championship game on Saturday, Dec. 15 in Florence, Ala., against either Winston-Salem State or West Texas A&M.

The Mavericks, who are the #1 seed in the NCAA Super Region #3, advanced to the national semifinals by virtue of a 17-10 victory over Missouri Western State last weekend. Valdosta State downed Carson-Newman, 48-26 in the Super Region #2 final Saturday afternoon.

Additionally, the Minnesota State men’s and women’s basketball games against Upper Iowa on Saturday have been pushed back to allow fans to attend the football game prior to the basketball games. The women’s game will start at 6 p.m. and be followed by the men’s game at 8 p.m.
