Feb. 17: An Afternoon of Drama in Music
Music from Mozart to Sondheim is brought to life onstage.
Minnesota State University, Mankato Department of Music News Release, 2-5-2013
Mankato, MN —Minnesota State Mankato’s Department of Music presents an Afternoon of Drama in Music on Sunday, February 17 at 3:00 p.m. in Halling Recital Hall of the Earley Center for Performing Arts.
Music from Mozart to Sondheim to the world premiere of a new work by Dr. John Lindberg is brought to life onstage. The event features Minnesota State University, Mankato faculty, Dr. Kimm Julian, Dr. John Lindberg, Youna Choi, and Lauren Weber. This is not your average faculty recital. The performers have collaborated—even conspired—with music and dance students to emphasize the dramatic aspects of the music.
When asked about the performance, Lauren Weber stated, “The collaboration between faculty and students has been an exciting experience. The student’s involvement ranged from designing the poster to writing the program notes as well as performing! This is a rather unique take to a faculty recital. Our goal is to bring the music to life not through fancy set pieces or scenery but rather through dramatic expression of the music.” Weber continued, “ It has been delightful to be able to work with my fellow faculty and students on this process. The music ranges from classical Italian opera to contemporary musical theatre. There should be something all audience members can enjoy.”
Admission to the event is $9, $7 for students with a valid MavCARD. Discount tickets are available online for University students. Advance purchase is strongly encouraged. Those who wish to purchase tickets online should go to www.mnsu.edu/music. For more information, call the Performance Series office, (507) 389-5549.
