Feb. 27: Interdisciplinary Diversity Dialogue
CETL, CESR sponsor "meet and greet" session.
Minnesota State University, Mankato Media Relations Office Announcement, 2-21-2013
As demographics continue to rapidly change, diverse workplaces and educational institutions result. An obvious question spurred by this action is, "How do we leverage diversity in a way that allows us to maximize its strengths and create a competitive advantage?" One way to finding answers to that question, while harnessing the benefits of diversity for our students, is to start an interdisciplinary conversation among interested faculty who desire to explore ways we can engage in various collaborative initiatives on this topic.
To advance that goal, the Center for Excellence in Scholarship and Research (CESR) and the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) have teamed up to sponsor ongoing faculty conversations leading to tangible, measurable outcomes. The resulting projects from these conversations could include, but are not limited to, research, new or modified courses, and similar initiatives. The faculty members involved in the kickoff of this effort are Dr. Scott Fee, Dr. Rama Mohapatra, and Dr. Sandra King. Dr. Kim, director of CESR, and Dr. Patricia Hoffman will be serving in an advisory and support capacity to assist the group in securing needed resources and to further facilitate interdisciplinary collaborations.
The first project planned to kickoff this endeavor is an informal meet-and-greet with current and former pre-doctoral fellows, who make up a diverse group of teaching scholars being part of an innovative program on campus. This informal gathering is designed to support these faculty members by connecting them with other faculty and campus resources, helping them explore possible research opportunities, and facilitating a broader collegial support system from the larger campus community.
