Feb. 26: Multidisciplinary Workshop Featuring Chemist, Compositionist
Workshop to describe project launched by two faculty members.
Minnesota State University, Mankato Media Relations Office Announcement, 2-21-2013
Two faculty members -- one a chemist and the other a compositionist -- will collaborate to host a Feb. 26 workshop that will describe how they launched their classroom-based research project.
Faculty members Heather Camp from the Department of English and Jeff Pribyl from the Department of Chemistry and Geology are the featured guest speakers at the workshop, which will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in Memorial Library 94A. Their workshop is titled "Composing in Chemistry: Initiating and Sustaining a Multi-Disciplinary Collaboration."
All are invited to attend.
This multi-year project involved experimenting with writing assignments in a 100-level course entitled "Chemistry for Engineers." Pribyl and Camp will explain why and how they became collaborators and discuss the steps involved in their collaboration, including their current work to publish together. They will also describe the challenges and rewards of pursuing a cross-disciplinary collaboration and offer lessons learned from their work together.
The workshop is sponsored by the Center for Excellence in Teaching & Learning (CETL) and the Center for Excellence in Scholarship & Research (CESR).
