Mankato, Minn. – Minnesota State University, Mankato’s Community Engagement Office is sponsoring a 12-hour candlelight vigil to raise awareness of domestic abuse that will be held from 11 p.m. on Friday, March 22 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 23 at Elks Nature Center in Mankato’s Rasmussen Woods.

Volunteers will light and place candles throughout the night, participate in a closing ceremony at noon on Saturday, March 23 and then lead a Rasmussen Woods spring clean-up following the event.

The general public is invited to volunteer by participating in four-hour shifts at the candlelight vigil. Volunteers wishing to participate should send an email to or

Minnesota State Mankato’s Community Engagement Office held its first candlelight vigil in March 2010 following the death of a Mankato mother due to domestic abuse.
