March 21: Men's Hockey at WCHA Final Five

The Minnesota State University, Mankato men's hockey team defeated visiting Nebraska-Omaha 3-1 on Sunday at the Verizon Center to win the best-of-three WCHA first round playoff series between the teams and earn a berth in the WCHA Final Five this week in St. Paul, Minn.

It is the first trip to the WCHA Final Five for Minnesota State Mankato since 2003. The Mavericks will play Wisconsin at 2:07 p.m. Thursday at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. The Minnesota State Mankato/Wisconsin winner will take on WCHA regular season co-champion St. Cloud State, at 2:07 p.m. on Friday in the WCHA Final Five semifinals at the Xcel Energy Center.

All WCHA Final Five games will be televised on Fox Sports North. To purchase WCHA Final Five tickets, contact the Mavericks athletic department at 507-389-6111.

Thursday's other WCHA Final Five matchup will be a 7:07 p.m. game featuring North Dakota vs. Colorado College. The winner of that game will advance to a semifinal matchup at 7:07 p.m. Friday against Minnesota.

Friday's semifinal winners will play in the WCHA Final Five championship game on Saturday at 7:07 p.m. The winner of the WCHA Final Five championship will be awarded the Broadmoor Trophy as the league's postseason tournament champion and will also earn an automatic berth into the 16-team NCAA tournament.

The NCAA will announce its complete 16-team postseason tournament bracket on Sunday, March 24.
