Mankato, Minn. – Alissa Warnemunde Schmidt of Owatonna, Minn., received the 2013 Distinguished Young Alumni Award from Minnesota State University, Mankato last week.

Warnemunde Schmidt, an architectural design manager at Viracon, Inc. in Owatonna, is one of 11 2013 alumni award winners. She was honored at an April 26 ceremony hosted by the Minnesota State Mankato Alumni Association.

Distinguished Young Alumni Awards go to graduates 35 years old or younger who have reached professional achievements early in their careers, and have positively impacted their communities.

Warnemunde Schmidt graduated from Minnesota State Mankato in 1999 with a bachelor’s degree in interior design.

After graduating, Warnemunde Schmidt accepted a marketing position with Taylor Corporation, where she had worked throughout college. It turned out that expertise in interior design, coupled with the marketing experience she gained at Taylor, eventually became the perfect match for her position at Viracon.

Warnemunde Schmidt spends her days providing technical, specification and design assistance to the architectural community. Among the projects with which she has been involved are Jacob K. Javits Convention Center and 11 Times Square in New York City, CityCenter in Las Vegas and the Dallas Cowboys’ new stadium. She was featured as a “Mover and Shaker” by the Star Tribune for her tremendous contributions to Viracon’s client relationships and the way she added a creative edge to the company’s design team.

Warnemunde Schmidt continues to nurture her artistic side by taking advantage of opportunities to showcase her artwork, most recently by participating in the Brooklyn Art Library Sketchbook Project.
