Minnesota State University, Mankato Athletic Communications News Release, 5-31-2013

Mankato, Minn. -- The Minnesota State University, Mankato baseball team defeated St. Edwards 6-5 on Thursday at the NCAA Division II Baseball National Championship in Cary, N.C., to remain undefeated (3-0) in the tournament and advance to Saturday's national championship game.

It will be the Mavericks' first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division II baseball championship game.

In Thursday's win, Minnesota State Mankato junior pitcher Jason Hoppe set an NCAA single-season scoreless innings record for any division, extending his record to 55 1/3 innings to break the previous record of 54 set in 2006 by Kyle Jones of Southern Illinois-Edwardsville.

The Mavericks (42-8), who have now won 13 straight games and 26 of their last 27, will take on either Tampa or Grand Valley State at 6 p.m. Saturday at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C.
