June 12-15: 'A Grand Night for Singing'

Rodgers & Hammerstein hit is making its Minnesota State Mankato debut.

Minnesota State University, Mankato Department of Theatre and Dance News Release, 6-3-2013

Mankato, Minn. -- "A Grand Night for Singing" is the next production of the 2013 Highland Summer Theatre season, the 47th annual summer season at Minnesota State University, Mankato.

Taste and imagination, the two key ingredients for a first-rate revue, abound in this fresh take on the Rodgers & Hammerstein canon conceived by Tony Award winner Walter Bobbie.

Over three decades after the duo’s final collaboration, “The Sound of Music,” took the Great White Way by storm, it was in fact this new Rodgers & Hammerstein musical that opened the 1994 Broadway season with flair and distinction, garnering wildly enthusiastic notices as well as earning two Tony nominations, including Best Musical. It features innovative musical arrangements, including a sultry Andrew Sisters-esque “I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Out-A My Hair,” a swingin’ “Honeybun” worthy of the Modernaires and a jazzy “Kansas City.”

This is the Minnesota State Mankato debut of "A Grand Night for Singing."

Individual tickets are on sale here and through the Theatre & Dance Box Office in the lobby of the Earley Center for Performing Arts. Hours are 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and one hours before performances.
