Mankato, Minn. – Minnesota State University, Mankato President Richard Davenport will discuss his vision for the 2013-2014 academic year during the annual President’s Convocation Address to faculty and staff from 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 19 in Bresnan Arena in the Taylor Center.
The first day of fall classes is Monday, Aug. 26, and student “move-in day” at each of Minnesota State Mankato’s residence communities is Thursday, Aug. 22, when more than 2,800 students will begin moving into on-campus housing.
More than 4,000 vehicles are expected on campus Aug. 22-23, as students, parents and friends move student belongings into four campus residence hall communities. The university will again provide faculty-staff volunteers to assist with logistics, as well as traffic-control officers to direct the flow of cars.
Drivers are asked to temporarily avoid main access streets such as Stadium Road and Val Imm Drive, and core-campus streets, and to park in remote lots on Thursday.
Eighty-five percent of new Minnesota State Mankato students choose to live on campus – a number that residence life officials say reflects the academic and social advantages of being an on-campus resident.
There’s no scheduled move-in day for thousands of additional returning students who live in private, off-campus apartments. Many will return to Mankato on the weekends prior to the start of classes.
A full schedule of “Welcome Week” activities is planned for students from Aug. 22-25. Included is a new student and family barbeque from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 22.
A complete “Welcome Week” schedule is available here.
Minnesota State Mankato, a comprehensive university with 15,413 students, is part of the Minnesota State Colleges & Universities system, which comprises 31 state institutions.
