Nov. 10: Indoor Rock Climbing Competition
Campus Recreation sponsoring third event of its kind on campus.
Minnesota State University, Mankato Office of Campus Recreation News Release, 11-8-2013
Mankato, Minn. – Minnesota State University, Mankato's Office of Campus Recreation is hosting its third-ever Indoor Rock Climbing Competition at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 10. The "Kato Krusher Climbing Competition" will take place in Minnesota State Mankato's Myers Field House at the Indoor Rock Wall Facility.
Climbers of all ages and all abilities from Southern MN and surrounding states will converge on the Minnesota State Mankato Campus for this annual climbing competition. Divisions for the competition--beginner, intermediate, advanced and open/lead climbing--will separate climbers into different ability levels.
Currently there are more than 60 registered competitors for the event, however registration is open until the event begins. The registration cost is $30.00. Spectators are welcome to attend and watch the event for free.
This competition is not based on speed. The modified redpoint format of the competition challenges climbers to climb a marked route "clean" without weighting their rope, slipping on a climbing hold or using unmarked holds. Competitors test their endurance by attempting to climb their best and accruing points for their top climbs. Due to the large amount of people projected, the competition will be broken into two sessions. The first session will be beginner and intermediate categories and the second session will be advanced and open divisions.
Free parking is available in gold lots 7 & 8 adjacent to the Myers Field House and Blakeslee Stadium throughout the event.
