Nov. 30: NCAA Division II Football Playoffs

Top-ranked Mavericks host St. Cloud State at noon Saturday at Blakeslee Stadium.

Mankato, Minn. -- The No. 1 nationally ranked Minnesota State University, Mankato football team will play host to Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference rival St. Cloud State at noon Saturday, Nov. 30 at Blakeslee Stadium in the second round of the NCAA Division II football playoffs.

The Mavericks (11-0 overall, 11-0 NSIC), the No. 2 seed in Super Region 3 behind No. 1 seed Northwest Missouri State, had a bye in the first round of the playoffs.

St. Cloud State (11-1 overall, 10-1 NSIC) advanced to the second round by defeating Henderson State 40-35 on Saturday in Arkadelphia, Ark. The Huskies’ only setback this season was a 34-7 road loss to Minnesota Duluth.

Minnesota State Mankato and St. Cloud State have faced each other 77 times since 1923, but this will be the first-ever NCAA playoff meeting between the two schools. The last time the two teams met was during the 2012 regular season, when the Mavericks won 25-21 in St. Cloud.

Minnesota State Mankato’s Department of Athletics announced that a “Maverick Tail-Great!” would be held in parking lot 20 from 10 a.m. until 11:45 a.m.

As part of a tailgate challenge, prizes will be awarded in the categories of “Maverick Spirit,” “Best BBQ,” and “Best Chili.” There will be a “taste-off” at 11:15 a.m.
