Minnesota State University, Mankato Athletic Communications News Release, 1-6-2014

Mankato, Minn. -- The Minnesota State University, Mankato wrestling team will play host to fourth-ranked Newberry College in a dual meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8 at the Taylor Center.

It will be the first home match of the season for the Mavericks, who are 2-0 this season in team dual competition. The Mavericks were not nationally ranked in the Jan. 3 Division II Wrestling Coaches Association national top 20 rankings but were among nine teams that received votes.

Newberry is 7-0 overall in duals this season. Wednesday's meet will be the first meeting between Newberry and Minnesota State Mankato since 2007. In that meeting, the No. 2 Mavericks defeated No. 9 Newberry by a 22-16 score in the Newberry Duals.

After wrestling Newberry, Minnesota State Mankato will then travel to Des Moines, Iowa, for the NWCA National Duals on Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 11-12.

The Mavericks will then begin their NSIC season with a home meet on Wednesday, Jan. 16 against Minnesota State University Moorhead.

Last season the Mavericks finished second in the NSIC with a 10-3-0 conference record. They finished third at the NCAA Division II Super Region 3 championship and finished eighth the NCAA Division II national championship meet.

Tickets for home wrestling meets are $4 for adult general admission tickets and $2 for youth (ages 5-17) general admission tickets. Admission is free for children under 5.

Individual tickets are available for purchase on the day of the meet only. The ticket office opens one hour prior to the meet's starting time.
