Jan. 23: Latino Engineering & Academic Day

Mankato, Minn. – More than 200 students and school representatives are expected to attend the annual “Latino Engineering & Academic Day” (LEAD) on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Minnesota State University, Mankato’s Centennial Student Union Ballroom.

The mission of Latino Engineering & Academic Day is to encourage and motivate Latino youth in grades 9 through 12 to pursue educational opportunities in the area of engineering and to increase their access to higher education.

The event is free and open to the public and will feature information and exhibits from the following academic programs:

· Automotive Engineering Technology
· Civil Engineering
· Computer Engineering Technology
· Manufacturing Engineering Technology
· Electrical Engineering Technology
· Pre-Engineering
· Construction Management
· Other Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields

Minnesota State Mankato engineering alumni will also be present to support the program and network with students interested in the field.

Event sponsors include: Institutional Diversity’s Center for Latino Affairs; the Access, Opportunity, Success, Intercultural Services office in collaboration with the College of Science, Engineering, and Technology; Bolton & Menk; and Hormel.
