Mankato, Minn. – Minnesota State University, Mankato marketing student Jessica Gumbert (pictured at right), a junior from Eau Claire, Wis., will be watching this year’s Super Bowl just like millions of people from around the world on Feb. 2 – at a viewing party.

Gumbert, however, will be watching at a viewing party in New York City after spending the previous week working in New York on “Super Bowl Boulevard” at one of the many fan events leading up to the Feb. 2 game, which will be played nearby at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.

Gumbert, who is majoring in both marketing and human resource management at Minnesota State Mankato, was hired this past summer as a product specialist for a Chicago-based company, Marketing Werks. Her job involved working outside the Metrodome in the “Fan Zone” at all Minnesota Vikings home games during the 2013 season as a brand ambassador for Verizon Wireless.

Gumbert said the season went very well and that about two weeks ago she was provided the opportunity to spend a week doing the same job in New York during the week leading up to the Super Bowl. She leaves for New York on Sunday, Jan. 26, and her airfare, lodging and meals will be paid by her employer. Not only that, she’ll get paid for her work, too.

Gumbert said she was excited to receive this opportunity.

“I am so fortunate to gain this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that came as a result of being in the Minnesota State Mankato Marketing Club and staying active on campus,” said Gumbert. “I’m extremely excited to get out in the ‘real world’ and use what I have learned through classes and my activities to do what I love.”

After flying back from New York on Monday, Feb. 3, Gumbert will resume her busy schedule at Minnesota State Mankato. She is involved in student government as the student senator for the College of Business; is president of the Marketing Club on campus; is the vice president of pledge education for Delta Sigma Pi, a professional coed fraternity; and is a student ambassador in the Office of Admissions.

A 2011 graduate of Eau Claire Memorial High School, Gumbert plans to graduate from Minnesota State Mankato in the spring of 2015.

She said she hopes to move to South Carolina after graduating and pursue a career in marketing.

Minnesota State Mankato, a comprehensive university with 15,409 students, is part of the Minnesota State Colleges & Universities system, which comprises 31 state institutions.
