Feb. 11: Peace Corps Information Session

Greetings friends of Peace Corps!

Did you know that five Minnesota State University, Mankato alumni are currently serving overseas as Peace Corps volunteers in Albania, Namibia, Peru, Senegal, and South Africa and 316 Mankato alumni* have served as Peace Corps volunteers since its inception in 1961? Go Mavericks! (*Data accurate as of 9/30/2012)

Erin McGillivray, Mankato’s Peace Corps representative, will be visiting campus on Tuesday, Feb. 11 for the Study Abroad Fair and a Peace Corps information session at 5 p.m. in Centennial Student Union Room 202.

Recently returned Peace Corps volunteer and local area resident Samantha Maranell will be the featured guest speaker at the Feb. 11 information session.

Maranell served in Samoa from 2010-12 as an English literacy and community development volunteer.

Seniors and recent college graduates should apply for Peace Corps by March 1.

Peace Corps is filling remaining programs departing in 2014 and early 2015. Apply online by March 1 for the opportunity to be interviewed and nominated for an assignment. The sooner applications are received, the sooner that skill sets and interests can be matched to available assignment openings in programs such as education and English teaching, agriculture, forestry and environment, public health, youth and community development, and economic development and technology.
