Feb. 28: Learning Analytics Presentation

A presentation and discussion on learning analytics will be held on Friday, February 28, 2014 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in Memorial Library (room 94B or room 2057) at Minnesota State University, Mankato or at 7700 France (room 307) in Edina.
Learning analytics is the practice of using data about our students and their performance to improve and optimize their learning.
The event will discuss a range of topics related to the broad conversation of learning analytics, including:
- The national conversation around learning analytics, and how it is being discussed at peer institutions and in the commercial educational space.
- The Minnesota State Colleges and Universities learning analytics roadmap.
- The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Grant in learning analytics awarded to Minnesota State Mankato last year, which has resulted in increases in student engagement and help-seeking behaviors in Math 98a.
- The Maverick Comprehensive Learning Analytics Support System (MavCLASS), a homegrown learning analytics tool funded out of the Gates Foundation Grant.
The event will be co-facilitated by professor Jeff Ford, principal instructor for Math 98a; Matt Pistilli, a
research scientist for teaching and learning technologies at Purdue University; Lynn Akey, assistant
vice president for Institutional Research, Planning and Development; and Jude Higdon, assistant CIO for Academic Technology Services.
This grant has been a collaboration among the College of Science, Engineering and Technology, Institutional Research, Planning, and Assessment, and Information and Technology Services.
