April 3: Farewell Recital by Stewart Ross

Long-time faculty member to retire in May.

Mankato, Minn. -- The Minnesota State University, Mankato Department of Music presents Dr. Stewart Ross (pictured) in a farewell recital on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. in the Elias J. Halling Recital Hall of the Earley Center for Performing Arts.

The event is a farewell trombone recital by Ross, who will retire from Minnesota State Mankato in May. Ross was director of bands for 21 years and served as the founding director of the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning for the past 13 years. In all, he has contributed his talents to the University for the past 37 years, arriving at the college in March 1977.

The recital features special guest performers David Viscoli, James DeVoll, Sarah Houle, and the Minnesota Valley Brass Quintet. Recital highlights include excerpts from Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story, Sammy Nestico’s Reflective Mood, and Eric Ewazen’s Songs of the Sun.

A reception will follow the recital with the location to be determined at a later date.
