Oct. 7: University Jazz Big Bands and Contemporary Ensembles
Concert to take place in Halling Recital Hall.

Mankato, Minn. – The University Jazz Big Bands and Contemporary Ensembles, directed by Director of Jazz Studies Dr. Douglas Snapp and Mr. Erik Root, will perform Tuesday, Oct. 7 at 7:30 pm in the Elias J. Halling Recital Hall of the Earley Center for Performing Arts, 320 Maywood Ave.
The focus of the Jazz Mavericks Big Bands is to provide students with experience in a
jazz ensemble along with several performance opportunities. The jazz literature performed ranges from classic jazz to contemporary jazz styles.
The Contemporary Ensembles, featuring both vocal groups and instrumental combos, make their inaugural concert appearance. Formerly called the Jazz Combos and Vocal Jazz Groups, the new ensembles feature a cappella styles of vocal groups such as Pentatonix, Rockapella, and Backtrack. The instrumental ensembles strive to expand beyond the traditional jazz genres, instead performing a wide variety of pop/rock and contemporary styles.
Concert admission is $9; $7 for students with a valid MavCard. Discount tickets are available online for University students. Advance purchase is strongly encouraged.
