Minnesota State University, Mankato Department of Music News Release, 11-10-2014
Mankato, Minn. – Award-winning band The Jimmys perform on Saturday, Nov. 22 at Hooligans Neighborhood Pub, 1400 East Madison Ave., Mankato (Madison East Center). The concert kicks off at 8 p.m. with The Bass Brand Brass Band. The Jimmys perform at 9:30 p.m.
The concert event is co-sponsored by KMSU-The Maverick and the Minnesota State Mankato Performance Series with assistance from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
The Jimmys are a festival and fan favorite in the upper Midwest and Canada. The MAMA (Madison Area Music Awards) and WAMI (Wisconsin Area Music Awards) have recognized and honored The Jimmys with 19 MAMA and WAMI awards including Blues Artist of the year (second year in a row), Blues Song of the Year, Bassist of the Year, Brass Player of the Year, and Keyboardist of the Year.
Blues recording artist Tinsley Ellis says, “The Jimmys are one hard act to follow at a blues festival. They are truly a wall of rhythm and blues sound. They’ve got it all – great original songs, musicianship, and showmanship. Great guys. Great sounds.”
The all-star rhythm section combine blues icon Perry Weber on guitar (Hubert Sumlin Band), rock and roll drumming legend Mauro Magellan (The Georgia Satellites) and the most charismatic and solid bass player in Johnny Wartenweiler. Added to the mix is one of the tightest horn sections around.
Concert admission is $13 in advance and $15 day of show. Tickets are available at Hooligans, online at mnsu.edu/music, or call the Performance Series office, 507-389-5549.
