Nov. 23: University Concert Bands Holiday Concert

Symphonic band and concert wind ensemble to perform in Halling Recital Hall.

Mankato, Minn. – The Symphonic Band and Concert Wind Ensemble members invite you to attend their holiday concert on Sunday, Nov. 23, 2014 at 3 p.m. The concert takes place in the Elias J. Halling Recital Hall of the Earley Center for Performing Arts, 320 Maywood Ave.

The Symphonic Band will be featuring conducting and trumpet pedagogy student, Erik Root, conducting Alfred Reed’s "Children’s Suite" featuring alto saxophone student, Ritchel Lawson. The Symphonic Band will also include Jared Barnes' "Adventum," arrangements of "O Come," "O Come Emmanuel," the "Ukranian Bell Carol" and John Mackey’s "Foundry."

The Concert Wind Ensemble will partner with Department student singers to perform five of Aaron Copland’s Old American Songs. The charming folk tunes and hymns include familiar melodies "Simple Gifts," "Zion’s Walls," and "Ching-a-Ring-Chaw." The concert will close with an exciting Spanish flamenco showcasing soprano saxophone soloist, Dr. Preston Duncan, flamenco guitar and flamenco cajón.

Concert admission is $9 for community members, $7 for students with a valid MavCARD. Discount tickets are available online for University students. Advance purchase is strongly encouraged.
