Dec. 2: Community Orchestra Holiday Concert

Newly formed orchestra will perform in Halling Recital Hall.

Minnesota State University, Mankato Department of Music News Release, 11-13-2014

Mankato, Minn. – The newly formed Minnesota State Mankato Community Orchestra will perform Tuesday, Dec. 2 at 7:30 p.m. in the Elias J. Halling Recital Hall of the Earley Center for Performing Arts, 320 Maywood Ave.

Orchestra Director Dr. Joseph Rodgers has transformed this year’s university orchestra. The orchestra has invited area community members to join the former University Orchestra and perform with university student musicians. The orchestra has quadrupled in size and offers an abundance of new opportunities for both students and community members. Rodgers says, “ I sincerely believe that the new performing group gives students experience getting to know community members as well as learning from them.”

Many of the community members playing in the Minnesota State Mankato Community Orchestra also perform or have performed with the Mankato Symphony Orchestra.
The concert features holiday themed music including Polonaise from “Christmas Eve” by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, Petite Suite by Claude Debussy, Six Characteristic Dances from “The Nutcracker” by Pyotr Ilyich Tschaikovsky, Waltzes and March of the Toys from “Babes in Toyland” by Victor Herbert, and the traditional holiday piece A Christmas Festival by Leroy Anderson.

Concert admission is $9; $7 for students with a valid MavCard. Discount tickets are available online for University students. Advance purchase is strongly encouraged. Those who wish to purchase tickets online should go to For more information, call the Performance Series office, 507-389-5549.
